Prepositions: Pre-position: A strategic word positioned after a noun or a pronoun and its object.

Examples: The book is on the table.

book: Noun; Table: object. On: preposition. is: linking verb.

 

The ants get in your ear while you are asleep.

ants: noun; ear :object. In:  Preposition.  your: modifier.

Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist.

Every: Modifier;.Person: Object; Inside: Preposition

Are those biscuits on the table for the dogs?

On: Preposition; Table: Object; For: Preposition; Dogs: Object.

The book is about the wizard.

The book is by the wizard.

The book is near the wizard.

The book is behind the wizard.

The book is under the wizard.

Shows the relationship between the book and the wizard.

Prepositions help show us where things are in space and time.

  • Dominique likes to read books about dinosaurs.
  • The puppy is on the blanket.
  • The soup tastes better if you put a little sour cream on it.
  • The troll is under the bridge.
  • The pig sat on the haystack.
  • The man is in the room.
  • I went to the movies with my best friend.
